I'm thrilled to announce that "Don't Buy A Bomb," a short documentary I produced, received the Social Impact Award at the Activists Without Borders Film Festival in 2024. The film was also a finalist at the Bridge of Peace Festival and a semi-finalist for Give Peace a Screen.
In 2020, I learned about Campaign Against Arms Trade’s (CAAT) court case challenging the UK government’s legality in selling arms to the Saudi-led coalition bombing Yemen. Despite overwhelming evidence of violations of International Humanitarian Law, targeting schools, hospitals, food supplies, weddings, and funerals; the government refused to halt arms sales. Instead, it prioritised its relationship with Saudi Arabia, the UK’s largest arms customer, blatantly ignoring its own export rules.
Recognising the urgency of documenting this case, I pitched a documentary idea to CAAT and Demilitarise Education (dED) in 2022, focusing on the court battle and exposing the misrule of law in modern judicial systems. As producer for dED, I brought on Eva McQuade, a brilliant filmmaker with deep roots in activism to direct and edit the film. With a modest £6,000 budget, we poured our passion into creating a factual, hard-hitting documentary tracing the case from start to finish.
The film has received widespread praise and is freely accessible on dED’s YouTube channel - Don't Buy A Bomb.
